Tift and band are on the verge of a three day run of shows starting tomorrow in LA ending in Tucson AZ on Saturday.  I'm catching those two shows (can't keep up with the band and their driving across the country to make San Diego in the middle!) and I'm stoked to say the least.

I'm looking forward to checking out the Sunset Strip and its long checkered history from The Byrds to Guns 'n' Roses and lots of stuff in between at clubs like the Troubador, the Whisky, the Roxy, etc.  I'm staying at the Hyatt (the "Riot House") on Sunset to complete the Sunset Strip historical rock 'n' roll  experience.  I plan on having a drink at the Rainbow Bar where Zeppelin and everyone else hung out and checking out as many old spots as I can.

I look forward to meeting MD #4 and giving a full report at the end of the weekend.

Rock On,

Shug

I don't wanna go to Sunset Strip
I don't wanna feel the emptiness
Gold marquees with stupid band names
I don't wanna go to Sunset Strip
--Cake

There are three primary reasons I love Cake: 1. They covered I Will Survive; 2. They wrote an eminently-danceable tune whose refrain is "shut the fuck up," which is eminently shout-able; and 3. Sheep go to heavven, goats go to hell. There are probably other equally worthwhile reasons I am ignorant of.

Anyway, the narrating character in the above-quoted song is just bitching and mealy-mouthing because he's been dumped, while I am bitching and mealy-mouthing because I don't get to go to these shows with Shug.

Mere hours away.  Looking forward to seeing you, shug.  I'll be the drunk guy in the Will Work For Tift shirt.

Go Shug Go! Wish I could be there in sunny California too, think they have Tift on the jukebox at the Chateau Marmont? Hadn't thought of the historical connection until now, with Merle, Buck, the Byrds and all country rockin' heroes at the Troubadour and Tift playing there tonight, the circle continues, unbroken.

Just found this news, probably too late to pick up on this for you to be there but it is awesome, and we will have new live videos! Tift and the full band are guests on Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW today, 11:15 PST, which makes that 2:15 EST, less than 1 hour from now, they're even sponsoring her show tonight! This is turning about to be some kind of Thursday with the Keep You Happy video out too, magic in the air, electricity and something indefinable, powerful and strong enough that I can feel it through the time zones.

Cheers,
Tom

Dudes,

The day started pretty synchronistic, when, about three hours into my drive, I decide to turn off the CDs and see what was on the radio.  I scanned through the stations and one was playing "Something To Me" which took me a moment to realize, it was so strange hearing Tift on the radio, and then I realized it was a live in the studio deal.  I soon figured out I had randomly pulled into the very start of the Morning Becomes Eclectic show and got to listen to the whole thing!  Way cool!

Already walked by the Chateau Marmont, I have a room on the 7th floor of the Hyatt with a view towards the city, amazing, can't wait to see it in the dark later tonight, and I'm heading down to Rainbow Bar and then the Troubador for soundcheck or whatever.

I wish all you guys were out here, it would make it even more fun than it already is, and I REALLY wish my girlfriend Laurie were here, but she couldn't make it, she'll have to wait until Tucson.  In spite of not having her here, I'm stoked for the show!  At least MD #4 will be at the show, we will rock it for all of you.

See, it's karma.  I have another karma story to tell you about, but I can't do it until at the show, on the off chance that Zeke is reading this and it might spoil the moment tonight.  I'll share it with the board after the show tonight.
