You can see my humble photographs here www.msnusers.com/ShugsPhotos/shoebox.msnw
Some of them are blurry on purpose (my brother was going for an effect) and the rest, taken by me, are blurry because I'm a bad photographer.

Awesome photo album Shug! I'm jealous but in a good way, actually really happy for you that you got to go to 3 shows and see her throw away the set list, forget the mic and the pa system, sit down and pull out Trouble Over Me, who could ask for more? This tour she's on is legendary, the show in Virginia that my friend and I went to has changed things in more ways than I'm even aware of right now, such a good feeling that I don't want it to ever leave. Thanks to a friendly Tifter (don't really like Tifthead that much) I have the audio of the entire show on my player right now, in less than 2 hours the windows will be down, the open road will be unwinding (for about 5 minutes and then it'll be sit and wait, this is Northern Virginia and there's a whole lot of us out here) and the songs will be unfolding and flying and doing all of those magical things that happen when Tift is on the radio. Love that story about the heckler, didn't know who he was messing with! Reminds me of Kelly Willis when she sang Loretta Lynn's Fist City. Have a great weekend.
Peace, Love & Tift,
Tom |

| Thanks for those. It's alway nice to see an artist who lets fans take pictures at the show. |

Hey Shug,
I think you reviewed the venue at 3rd and Lindsley in Tn a few years back. What is the size and how are the acoustics ? Thanks. Peter

Peter,
That venue is pretty small from what I remember, I'd guess it'd max out at about 200 or less.
I was sitting at the bar and still within about 20 feet of the stage. The audience was pretty attentive, almost more of a coffehouse vibe than a boisterous bar, really quiet in between songs.
It sounded pretty good from where I was sitting, from what I remember. I had no issues with the sound and I get unhappy really quickly if I cannot hear all the instruments and voices in a relatively balanced mix.
It did not have a backstage, the stage is kind of up against the front window or wall and the band came in and out a door that led to the sidewalk/parking lot out front.
Hope that helps.

No pictures of the Tucson show but a very nice interview from the Tucson Weekly that I just found by accident -

Thanks, Tom, for finding this one. I had it in print and didn't see it online a couple weeks ago, and was wondering how to post it, but you took care of that. I found particularly interesting the quote about feeling like she doesn't help people with her music. I can understand how she could feel that way, but I think art contributes a lot to the emotional and spiritual health of a society and individuals. With each of these interviews, we get a few more insights into Tift's feelings and thoughts. I'm glad people are collecting them here on the site, it makes a neat archive.
Phillip, glad you enjoyed the photos. I like the ones of Tift and Jay and Scott singing without microphones, that was a cool moment. |

Amen to that Shug, the radio interviews are very good too, came across one from UNC on 8/31/04 where Jerry from the Bynum General Store called in, I don't have the link right now but if you google enough it should turn up, they had an mp3 download too, no live songs but a good long talk that covered a lot of ground. I hope Tift is realizing now how much people have missed her, not to mention all of us that just saw her and her band perform for the first time, life changing is an understatement and what they can do has tremendous value on personal and social levels, the world can become a better place if we choose that direction together.
Peace, Love & Understanding,

Check out this video from the Troubadour show.
The two things that stuck out to this viewer: first, it's great to have video evidence of Scott McCall's cool guitar licks; second, the people standing in front of this videographer have less rhythm than I do. |
