Hey guys - NPR's All Songs Considered has posted a poll for the best CD of 2008 (so far). They have a selection of items, but also encourage you to post on their blog any write-ins that aren't on their list. Someone already posted and listed "Another Country" - maybe one of us. But at any rate, here's an opportunity to open some more NPR listener's eyes to the CD. I think for them not to become suspicious that it's guerilla-tactic voting, you may want to vote for something else in addition - they let you select or write in five albums.

Here's the link:

You go, Paul! Got to do what a TEAM can do for our girl.

Now let's just hope the NPR blog moderator doesn't go "Heyyyy... wait a minute..."

Yeah, Andie, there are ALOT of write-ins for Tift in one day, it does look like stuffing the ballot box.

But I did my part for also voting for the Black Crowes, Gary Louris and Kathleen Edwards.  I'm sure the Black Crowes will throw them off!

As of this post there are 51 write-ins for Tift. Now if we could get ALL the forum members, some 550 or so, to write in...WOW Hey Shug we arn't plugging the ballot box we just have 550+ fans that all have one vote each Now if we could just motivate them

Andie,

I don't think anyone at NPR will ever be asking themselves Tift who ? after today !!! Shug is right, it looks like a Florida election with the poll deadline looming, sans the hanging chad. In fact, it almost....scratch almost, it looks like they got spammed by some pretty well intentioned folks that just happen to have great taste in music.   Peter

Well, I'm not too worried about the NPR staff not knowing who Tift is - she's had a decent amount of exposure there. As a matter of fact, if you go to www.npr.org/music and look in the center bar under "Studio Sessions", they've listed her session from WXPN.

I figure if Bob Boilen does decide there's been some ballot-stuffing going on (well, I guess technically there HAS), at least others leaving comments and their votes are getting a healthy dose of Tift exposure, and maybe the unintiated will be curious enough to give "Another Country" a listen.

I think it looks like an obvious viral attack. But it says something about Tift that she the only singer who has such a viral attack.

I picked out a few other choices to vote not knowing anything about them, but the singer. One of those will probably win.

Andie,

Thanks again for the tip about the NPR vote.  It's all good, I did not mean anything by NPR staff not knowing who Tift is.  What I meant was if there was a recent hire or someone who was out sick when Tift previously played there they know who she is now.  My apologies if I was unclear, or ambiguous - I guess I should edit my post.   I agree with you that our efforts should engage the curious reader of the write-in comments to give "Another Country" a listen and that is our #1 goal as a fans.  Thanks again, great to see so many write-ins and rightfully deserved.

Oh heck no - no ambiguity or anything. I mainly wanted to plug the fact that they have her prominently displayed on their main page. Pretty cool exposure, then with all the Screaming Teens posting about it, it's just doubly good!

I'm really tickled to see all the posts. If that ain't a "groundswell" in Bob Boilen's definition, I don't know what is!

BOOYAH!!! WE MADE THE LIST!!! Whoo hoo!!

Enough write-in votes managed to get Another Country on the list for Best Albums for 2008! THey were kind enough to talley the write-in votes and she has 61. Not quite up there with Vampire Weekend, but hey. It's a small triumph!

Excellent work, Teens! I'm so proud I could cry!

We're up to 81 votes and the top command (label, mgmt) is going to help spread the word. Keep 'em comin'.

I voted for Tift and MGMT. Different styles of music, but both fantastic albums.
