Booth Amphitheater at Regency Park in Cary (Raleigh-Durham metro area) is a beautiful outdoor concert venue, set in the woods.  I've seen Norah Jones with Gillian Welch and David Rawlings and Jack Johnson there.  It's one of my favorite venues there is.  Tift will be doing a concert there with the NC Symphony on 9/2, in which she will do some songs by herself and some with the symphony.  Quite a shift from the rock and roll band but of course she can do whatever she sets her mind to.  This is a big-league venue--Aretha Franklin's played it, Allison Krauss, Ben Harper--and I'm proud and stoked that she got this gig.  And y'all, of course, would want to know first.

Wow that sounds such a cool gig - I would love to see that! P & Z I demand that you take your video cameras!

I'm not really into classical music in any way, but I could take a bit of orchestra with Tift - I can just imagine what a fantastic sound that'll make.

I'm not really big in to classical music either, but as I understand it the NC Symphony is pretty good, and I think this is a kind of prestigious gig for Tift.

I am into classical music and always have been, but I think this will be a pops concert. It will be cool to hear what they do. She and Zeke seemed stoked about it. P
Andy, cameras will be there and you know we don't waste time posting pics.

I did an internship while in school down in Cary, NC for about a year total, spread out over 3 semesters. I loved living there. This may call for a road trip, and by road trip I mean airplane.

That would be very cool. Should be able to get a flight from there to RDU without too much trouble.

I'm quite tempted by this one too. Anyone know when tickets will come on sale? I need time to convince myself I can afford the trip!

You're so ahead of the game Phillip, it's almost scary!   I shall confer with my partner in crime.  I got a guidebook for NC and there certainly looks a lot to do. It says that Wilmington is "a gem", by the way!

It is. That's why we moved here. We could have moved anywhere we wanted. (Except, say, Santa Barbara, where you need more money to get a shack by the landfill than a penthouse in London, but we're not West Coasters anyway). We will happily do major-league trip planning and entertaining for any British Tiftoids who wish to come over. And of course we will heads-up T who would kill us if we didn't.

You're so kind!  (though you may live to regret it because I've already checked out flights ...)  I'm happy to return the offer of entertaining any US Tiftheads who venture to Europe.  Lots of nice places to go and see Tift and they're all close together so you can take in lots of shows....

No cow excrement--one of my dearest hopes and dreams is to spend lots of quality time in the UK. I would like to get there under my own sails, and with luck we will make that happen. I have the most wonderful collection of related fantasies, all of which involve knowing exactly when we enter British waters and raising the Red Ensign to the starboard spreader while Handel's Water Music rolls over the water from the stereo . . . OK now I'm tearing up again. Stop it.

Sweet. The smell of Lagavulin, I am sure. I shall stick my nose in my snifter right now to send it all through my scotch-fogged brain.

Miss Merritt really likes her some Lagavulin, too, by the way.
