I emailed the Koka Booth Amphitheatre to get an update on Tift's show there since there is still no mention of it on their site.  Here is the answer I got:

"Hi Scott,

The show is Pops in the Park on Sunday Sept 2 Gates open at 5pm Show time is 7pm This is a FREE event, no tickets are needed.

Lawn chairs, blankets, food & beverages are allowed."

This is going to involve some schedule juggling on my part since my daughter is expecting me at her condo on North Topsail that day.  Since she has been at at least a dozen of my Tift concert trips I hope she will understand.  My wife may be a different story.

Scott, you rock. Way to be proactive. Sounds like your whole Mack-Daddy crusade won't be a problem. Could we perhaps appease your daughter with a bottle of something good?

Guess what. I will be in the competition for travelling the farthest to get to the show after all. We've changed our vacation plans to allow for an arrival from Calgary on the day of the show. I hope they will allow cameras (no cameras permitted at the Alison Krauss show at Koka Booth, but then Alison doesn't generally allow photographs anyway - check out how she seems to be glaring at my camera in the shots from MerleFest this year).

I reckon come August Phillip will be doing some serious organizing.

You reckon right, FH. I need for everyone who is planning to be there to keep me apprised of that so I can do this right. So far I've got us, FH, Zach, Scott H, maybe The Boss (coudl we be so lucky?), two good friends of mine--who am I forgetting?

Do I smell a tailgate in the works? This is going to be great, a TMSTFC get together and Tift show with in a week of my birthday.

Oh, my! A Mack-Daddy Birthday! This could call for a party of EPIC proportions!

I feel bad for the symphony. This concert is bound to go down as Tift Legend. They're going to feel like back up singers.

They're going to feel just fine, cuz we're a vortex of positive tailgatin' music lovin' energy. It's all good.

I think Vicky and Andy should come too.

I sooo wanted to; the Merritt cold turkey is really kicking in, and I want to meet the other screaming teems!  But I couldn't get a babysitter for that week.  I'm making do with Gwen Stefani in Copehagen instead.

I can't believe I admitted that in public.

I'd go to Copenhagen to see just about anybody. To go to Copenhagen.

I carry some Copenhagen everywhere I go. Gwen Stefani, not so much.

You'd probably get pretty tired if you had to carry Gwen Stefani everywhere you went.

Just got home after a weekend out of town.
The US Tiftoids can all have a trial run of the TMSTFC party-to-end-all-parties in Septempber, and then you'll be just about recovered for another one by the time the new-cd-launch-party comes around in early 08! That's what I'm aiming for, and a Tift show or 2 if it all comes together. I'm saving up the pennies and we'll see what I can do when the time comes.
ps the reason Vicky is going to see Gwen Stefani in Denmark is because no one will recognise her in Copenhagen.... ;-)

I am definitely going to try and make this shindig. I have to be at a client's the day after the show, but that's why they invented airplanes.

C I hope you're serious because if you are I will pass the word to Her Rockness who has already been forewarned of the possibility. Book them tickets.

Z, Vicky has all SORTS of secrets. Some of which she shares with me. Meaning, we have the same ones. Hint: The Bee Gees figure in there somewhere.

C, who makes appointments this far in advance? That is not the way of the slack.

I made sort of a dry run to Koka Booth over the weekend, for an N.C. Symphony show based on outer space themes (Star Wars, Also Sprach Zarathustra, Rings around Uranus, etc.).

Noteworthy: At shows with reserved seating, there are metal bleachers taking up the primest locations in front of the stage, but these had been taken away since there was no reserved seating ... presumably this will be the case for Tift's show as well. The area immediately in front of the stage where those bleachers would be if they were there is bricked rather than grassed.

They made this announcement, "No flash photography please." I took this to mean they don't bar photography de facto.

For the symphony shows, it seems there are no real constraints on bringing in food and beverages, unlike some of the other shows where they do not permit even food to be brought in.

At least one stage hand was aware of Tift's impending performance.

Tift is gonna love it when she walks out and sees all you guys!

Maybe we Brit Tiftoids could have our own gathering on 2 September ... share a few bevvies and join our US Tiftoids in spirit!
