This show is part of the symphony pops at Koka Booth concert series. The earlier-in-the-afternoon set by the other band was news to me, so it looks like Cary is trying ot make this a Labor Day Weekend extravaganza, complete with fireworks. Phillip will obviously know more than the rest of us, but I wouldn't be totally surprised if the symphony played a couple of solos. One thing I heard was that Tift and the symphony were working up a Stephen Foster number.
The day is free, so I suppose we will have to arrive before the first set to make sure we get our lawn chairs staked out up front, unless we can arrange for some reserved space - maybe we could say our names are Merritt, there's usually space roped off for Tift's family for in-town gigs.
Phillip, have you brought up with her the concept of a group photo shoot yet, Tift's camera included? |

| Hey FH--didn't see this when I answered Hub--your take on the scenario is the same as mine--when I get up with her on this I'll ask her about whether or not it would be possible or desirable to have a spot reserved--and I will definitely ask her about a photo shoot--I haven't corresponded with her on this subject yet at all, as she said a little while back that she can't even think about it until the studio is wrapped up and that should be this week--I've got an e-mail draft about that wknd scheduled to send to her on Sunday eve so I will add it. Thanks for reminding me. |

| If its a dry show, I'll just show up lit from the night before. Might do that anyway. If we want the primo seats, we need to be there and get set up early. Then we party early. |

Update on Sept. show from T: she'll be playing 5 songs, and WRAL will be video-ing, and she and Z will have rights to the vid--so we're totally covered on that. Also Forrest she said we can certainly arrange some time for group photo fun.
Today is T and Z's last day in Laurel Canyon; from that one can certainly infer that the record is ready for mastering and everyone can rejoice that there is now a new Tift album, even if we won't hear it for a while. |

| After the 5th song, if we keep raising Hell, you think she'd play 5 more? Its a relief to to be this much closer to the release of the album for everyone I'm sure. |

| Nah, I think the conductor would probably kick her off the stage, Z--your best bet would probably be to whisk her off to a bar and get her somewhat drunk and then just happen to have brought her guitar with you. |

DOH! It just hit me! (Sometimes it takes my nightly complement of adult beverages to kick-start my brain)--"the Labor Day Weekend show"! And I'm sitting here with a 21-year-old battered poster of the man on my wall with 20 ticket stubs going back to 1986 on it!
Headin' up to San Francisco For the Labor Day Weekend show I got my Hush Puppies on . . .
[and then what we'll all be singing Sunday night] Come Monday, it'll be all right . . . |

Well Mitch, I've been waiting a bit for the right moment to inflict this on everyone, and now I can partially blame it on you! Cool! I wrote the following complete masterpiece the other night in honor of the upcoming first great official convocation of the TMSTFC.
Headin’ up to catch the Tift, yo At the Labor Day Weekend show We got our beach sandals on I guess we never was meant for glitter Rock and roll
But honey we didn’t know That we’d be missin’ you so
Come Sunday It’ll be all right Come Sunday We’ll be holdin’ you tight You spent fifty-six days In a brown L.A. haze And we just want you back by our side
Yes, it’s been quite a summer Rental house and west-bound planes Tomorrow you’re off somewhere else now Somethin’ you’ll try to explain
But darlin’ since we love you so That’s the reason we’ll just let you go
Come Sunday . . .
We can’t help it, honey You’re that much a part of us now Remember that night at the merch table When we said there’d be no room for doubt?
We hope you’re enjoyin’ this song, yo It ain’t near as pretty as yours But this bunch of drunks can’t go wrong, no Diggin’ you in the great out of doors California has worn us quite thin Thank Jah you’re in Carolina again!
Come Sunday . . .
(with insincere apologies to the great CEO of Margaritaville . . . )

Wow--I have apparently achieved a groaner so monstrous that not even the Teens, who'll comment on anything, can bear to comment. I am honored almost beyond speech. Anyway, the Labor Day Weekend show is going to be broadcast on TV twice--here's the schedule:
WRAL-TV will broadcast Pops in the Park on Monday, September 3 at 7pm, and UNC-TV will broadcast the program on Thursday, September 20 at 10pm.
Also, after that, Tift will have access to the video, so we'll see what we can do with it. |
