I just read the announcement on the front page.  Harumphs all around for Tift and the Boys.  This great news, one step closer to the new album, really exciting.  Congratulations Tift.

Good news indeed, and the even better news is she'll be out here in LA for a while; perhaps they need a roadie such as, oh, ME.

Yay, go the Tiftster!  She's one patient lady.  Hope it all turns out well for her and her boys.

Great News!  Now, lets hope that her new label will do a better job of marketing her than Lost Highway did.

I forgot to mention that Tift sent us the final demo of Something To Me, which you can download from the Downloads page (you have to be logged in first). Great song!

Let me know if you have any trouble downloading the song, as we have had trouble with downloads in the past.

As if that isn't enough (!), Zeke also sent us some pictures from the signing at Fantasy Records.

Brilliant, brilliant news for Tift!

So glad that a deal has been done - really excited about the new record. And lets hope Fantasy have got some dollars for a Tift and BAND tour of the UK! That would be just superb.

Chris, I've tried to download the song twice and each time I've got approx 85% done and it cuts off.... i.e. 3.75MB instead of the full 4.3MB  I'll try once more and see if I can get it all! Sounds great anyway!

Thanks for the email.. I got hung up for a few minutes with 1 second showing ; however waiting a few minutes finally allowed me to finish downloading it... very nice song, however if Bill Gates and crew were forced to make time pieces for a living, they would all be living in shacks!

I have the whole song now!

Dave  Kennedy has written a nice blog on Tift's new deal over here at his Houston ramblings page
http://houstonramblings.typepad.com/ramblings/2007/06/tift-merritt-si.html with a big-up for tm.net too!

Chris, speaking of "Something to Me", did you ever hear back from Zeke about whether they would be OK with posting the tab for it?

Thanks for reminding me hub. I had forwarded that, but didn't hear back. It's not surprising with how busy they are, but I forwarded it to Tift and Zeke for approval, so I'll let you know what I hear.

Wow, miss a day, and I missed the huge news. Thank you to the Web site folks for sending the e-mail.

In addition to Creedence Clearwater Revival, jazz fans among you should remember Fantasy as one of the great homes of Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans, and Vince Guaraldi back in the day.

Tift Merritt is bound to add some great recordings to Fantasy's illustrious legacy.

As longtime Brubeck and Guaraldi fans, we dig the post, Mitch. Much of mine and Andie's collection is jazz. Tift was intrigued from the get-go by Fantasy's (and Concord's) history and roster. Y'all may know that Concord re-launched one of the two most deservedly famous labels from my hometown--Stax.

Phillip, One of my favorite CD sets is that first Stax/Volt box. If Tift enjoyed covering James Carr, perhaps she could take on some of the highlights from the stacks at Stax.

Unless this is a thread that has been tried before, perhaps someone might want to start a list of tunes you'd enjoy hearing Tift cover (knowing, of course, that her own songs deserve to get the preferential treatment).

By the way, thanks to Chris and Phillip for stopping by the blog, and thanks to Andy for always checking it out. I don't post here very often, mainly cause you guys are THE source for all things Tift. But I'm happy to pass it along. Is it 2008 yet, dammit?

Hey David. Thanks for the kind words. It's not 2008 but we're finalizing plans for what will hopefully be rather regular tidbits from the band in L.A. while they're making the record. Should have something on that in the next few days so stay tuned.
