It's always great to see Ms. Merritt in action. She even treated us to a French lesson.

I'll leave the reviews to the vets, but I wanted to be sure that Phillip learned as quickly as possible that Fantasy Records' latest recording star collected three bottles of Maker's Mark. (She would have collected a fourth had "Still Pretending" made it into the set list.

I don't know why my finger went wild on the "s" in typing the record store's name.

No worries, those extra characters have been removed :).

While we're waiting for the pics, check out Tift's new web site at www.tiftmerritt.com/tift.

Thanks so much Mitch. I'm thrilled about the 3 Macksketeers. And a most prompt reporting-in!

I figured the extra 's's were just because you were so excited.

I felt a little awkward, a newcomer surrounded by so many people who mostly seemed to recognize each other's faces, and also being in the way during the sound check and all...  But it was an enjoyable evening.  Ms. Merritt puts on quite a one-woman performance.  On top of that, she didn't seem the least bit bothered even though some group of guys hung around during the autograph session, taking pictures of her and, by all appearances, trying desperately to get her drunk.  And she helped me realize just how much French I've forgotten since high school.  What more can you ask of a recording artist?

Posted an image at http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/pmcolt/schoolkids.jpg .  Will submit some of mine as soon as I have a chance to go through them, but I seriously doubt there's going to be any lack of photos.

I just returned from the show. It was pretty cool, kind of different setting, very bright, and intimate. Forrest got the set list, maybe he can list all the songs Tift sang. The highlight of the night was an acoustic version of Hopes to High with Tift playing guitar and harmonica. Plus, it was a highlight to usher in 3 new Mack Daddy's. As Mitch pointed out Forrest won't give up his whiskey until Tift plays Still Pretending. I got a few pictures, and will get them turned in to The Big Dog, when I get my laptop up and running again, hopefully by this weekend.

Think I figured out how to post images, so here're a couple quick ones.

Sound test.  Test 1... 2... 3...

Bottle #1.

Bottle #2

I have no picture of Bottle #3 being presented, unfortunately.  Soon as I can go through the pics that I got, I'll submit them.

Those pictures came out great!

Poor Tift. We're going to destroy her liver before the album is released.

I sent Chris a few pictures this morning.  I had to reduce the quality to get them in one email.  Now that I have reached Mack-Daddy status, it is T-shirt time.  One sad note:  I look like an idiot in my picture.  Hopefully, Forrest got a better one.  I think Tift got a bit spooked by all the people with cameras.  I have included one where she is actually saying "You guys are freaking me out".  The quality is bad but it tells the story.  For some reason I got a better picture of her dad in the background.

She called us paparazzi.  I think she thought it was funny, though, all these cameras click click clicking the whole time.  It was very informal, it was not a large crowd.  It was more "personal," because she was so close to us and we could interact with her more freely during the set than we can in a real concert.  I felt much less self-conscious about taking pictures of her than I usually do.  The unamplified song was a real bonus.

Tift really looked, and sounded, good.  I assume I underexposed all my pictures before I started using the flash during the signing session; downloading even as we type.  Looks like I took 173 images.

I think I have Mitch's video up at http://www.tiftmerritt.net/VideoPlayer/tabid/172/VideoId/7/Default.aspx, but the software I'm using is a bit quirky, so let me know if you have any trouble.

I think the original at YouTube.com may be better quality, too.

I've put up a couple of shots from last night on my web site and emailed a larger set to Chris for posting here.  True to form, the top 10 are all out of focus.  What I SHOULD have done would have been to have stood right in her face during the entire off-mike song and clicked a shot a second.  Another missed opportunity.

I think Tift's hair has a defnite French twirl to it now.
