The home crowd definitely pumped up Tift Merritt and her band tonight. They performed each of the new tracks from Another Country, plus a good sample of Tambourine and a couple of Bramble Rose standouts.

I hope someone else can get you a detailed set list. One thing we will lack from this performance is much video and still photography documentation. The venue was strict about photography.

The cameras were busy afterward, catching up with TM and bandmates as they milled about.

I plan to post a five-minute video a little later.

Mitch is right, it was an awesome show. Tift really felt the love from the crowd tonight. Hopefully my photos will be ready tomorrow. It was good to see all of the 'Teens again and meet the travelers, David and Andy. Great times.

{edit: I must've been tired, because I didn't even see this thread when I first posted this in its own thread.  I think everything's straight now.}

Just got back from Durham, and I guess everyone else is partying, on the road, or sound asleep right now.  Sleep is sounding better and better, but I thought I'd say once again, for the record, that Tift absolutely rocks.

No cameras were allowed in the show, presumably because the whole thing was being videoed.  So, unable to photograph the show, I amused myself by writing the setlist down on the back of my ticket with a ballpoint pen.  My handwriting is incredibly illegible, but here's what I can read of what I wrote:

  1. Something to Me
  2. Broken
  3. Another Country
  4. Supposed to Make You Happy
  5. Hopes Too High
  6. I Know What I'm Looking For Now
  7. Ain't Looking Closely
  8. Keep You Happy
  9. Tell Me Something True
  10. My Heart is Free
  11. Neighborhood
  12. Tender Branch
  13. Morning is My Destination
  14. Good-Hearted Man (solo encore)
  15. Write My Ticket
  16. Stray Paper
  17. Plainest Thing
  18. Mille Tendresses

And a couple of photos from after the show.

Invisible Martini (Shaken, not stirred)

The Ladies' Man

All right, time for sleep.  I'll sort through the rest of my pictures later.  It was nice to see the Screaming Teens again!  Or for the first time, in some cases!

Mitch, that video is great.

Andy and David, it's great to be able to match a face and personality with your posts. It's great that you were both able to make it from so far for the show.

It's great to meet new band member Scott McCall.

Basically, everything is great :).

Great video Mitch.  You are now the official TMSTFC videographer (if Chris and Phillip say it's OK  :-) ).  After I looked at the most recent video I looked at your video from Schoolkids again.  I had forgotten that Zach brought along about 437 items for Tift to sign.  And, of course, I looked like a blubbering idiot.  Thanks anyway.

Saw Tift for the first time last night in Durham and enjoyed it very much.   I think it is really interesting to see the wide variety of folks that attended the concert.  The crowd ranged from very young (under 12) to those that could be Tift's grandparents.  As the band was rocking on stage, it made me smile to the enthusiastic response of all of the various types of people in the crowd.

I guess it can't be avoided, but must confess that I found the videographer to be a distraction.

Glad you had fun jte. The videographer was a bit of a necessary evil I guess. Tift does seem to draw a wide audience

Here is the link to my photos from the show. I picked up my camera during the encore and took pictures until I was made to leave the auditorium.

Thanks, Chris and Scott, and welcome jtelander.

The Reids also kept their video camera busy during the festivities, so I suspect we might see more evidence of the Screaming Teens' fun once Phillip and Andie have time to upload their material. I'll accept second-chair videographer status to their first-chair honors. :)

Scott, I chuckled when I saw your comment about the Schoolkids video. It's a good thing I don't appear in that clip, since the only photographic evidence of my interaction with Tift that evening demonstrates what a dork I am.

Thanks again for the chance to to meet new friends, say hello to old friends, and introduce new TM fan Jana to the Tift experience. (Jana's the one in the video asking Tift where she got the cute dress.)

Thanks for the pics.  Sorry that you were made to leave.

I'm curious to know who sets the camera/recording policy ?

I'm not sure how that happened, but when I spoke to Tift about it after the show, she was glad that I was able to sneak in and get a few.

"I guess it can't be avoided, but must confess that I found the videographer to be a distraction."

Funnily enough, the original reason I was given why cameras weren't allowed was that they didn't want any distractions during the show.  Glad you had a good time, jtelander.

Nice work with the picture piracy, Zach.  The photos came out nicely for ones you had to sneak from the back of the auditorium.  And Mitch the unofficial official TMSTFC videographer, that's some fine after-the-show interviewing.

Thanks for the props, Phil, and thanks to you and to Zach for some sweet pics.

As for my photography/videography skills, an alternate caption for that picture of me, Zach, and Zeke would have been:

"So how does this thing work, Zach?" Mitch asked without a clue.

By the way, I don't think anyone has yet mentioned that Sara Watkins offered a fine opening solo set. She told us she had just finished mixing her new album, though she had not yet chosen a title. Be on the lookout for some fine new music from Ms. Watkins!

I love reading all this and I loved every minute of this weekend with y'all. Sara Watkins was indeed wonderful and I wonder if she had to catch a plane after her set because I didn't see hide nor nair of her the rest of the night. Did anyone else?

Good to see you all! What a fun evening! Forrest, I'm still giving you grief about sitting at the grownup table instead of at the kids table with the rest of the riff raf. Scott , I'm sorry you missed dinner, but you were stylin'! As for the peeps at our table, well, that just rocked. So nice to get to visit with all of you.

Phillip and I were lonely for Andy all the way home. I wanted to keep him. We had lunch with him today and then dropped him at the airport on the way out of town. He was excellent company and I hope he'll come be a house guest with us again soon! (We need more cookies, Andy!)

I'm uploading the videos from my extremely superior Flip video camera (2 double-A batteries and a blurry zoom feature!) and soon I will put them up for some Teen footage. I'm going to totally smoke Mitch's rank amateur video with my extraordinary professional video skills. Mine is going to be called "The Tift Cloverfield Weekend!" or maybe "The Blair Tift Project!" Footage of my feet is an extra bonus.

Whew!  Just rolled in from Durham (why the hell is that flight two hours up, but three hours back? )  Anyway, I've got little to add to everything that's been said about the show, but I wanted to thank all of you Screaming Teens for being such a blast to hang out with.  My only regret is we didn't get more time to hang out.  Seems like maybe Tift needs to curate a three-day music festival or something.  Then we can maybe get Andy to come back to the States!

Mitch, you really are the official Unofficial videographer now.  Nice work interviewing the band - I'm not sure they even noticed they were being exploited for your documentary purposes ;)

To everyone I met this weekend, it was a real pleasure.  Why do you suppose Tift has the nicest bunch of super fans on the planet?  -DK

Andie, footage of your feet is one HELL of an extra bonus. I'd call it pay-per-view actually.

DK, backatcha--so cool you could be there.
