I'm way behind in updating the Calendar with upcoming shows, but I wanted to let everyone know that Tift will be doing shows with Teddy Thompson in NC and SC this August:

Fri 8/22  Windjammer, Isle of Palms, SC
Sat  8/23 NC Museum of Art, Raleigh, NC
Sun 8/24 Greenfield Amphitheater, Wilmington, NC  (WUIN 5th Anniversary concert)

I can think of a lot of Raleigh fans and at least 2 Wilmington fans that are loving this.

Jealous as all hell. Love Teddy his last disc is a glorious slice of country heaven. Amazed at how he has totaly been able to shake off his parents tag and realy create his own thing.

Wonder if they will try to do a duet or two on tour? Their voices would sound great together, I'll bet.

I can say this--Tift very much wanted Teddy to do these shows.

Haven't heard Teddy yet, if he can sing and play like his parents I'm in and what's below here seals the deal - if you scroll down you'll see Tift on 3 songs here, these are all covers of old country standards with one original I think, Greg Leisz on pedal steel is nothing to sneeze at either, he's incredible and throws down in his own, unmistakeable style. Can't play this on the pc at work of course, here's the link: http://www.teddythompson.com/music.aspx. More irony here than you can shake a stick at, or a barrel of monkeys - Linda and Richard Thompson sing, in French, on Evangeline Made, the Cajun tribute cd I gave to Tift last month when they came to Virginia...

I'll echo that Teddy's country album is a corker - especially, as Tom has mentioned, it features Tift providing harmony vocal on a few tracks.

I've seen Teddy play live a few times and he can be a bit hit or miss, depending on the mood he's in - I think he feels like he's got something to prove when playing in the UK (with his dad Richard being such a folk-rock legend).  A couple of times I saw him support Lucinda Williams in Nov 2006, and also supporting
Seth Lakeman (young English folk/fiddle star) last September - I like his dry sense of humour though....
"Most of the songs I've played tonight are short 2 1/2 minute sad country songs.  This ones the exception.  It's 6 minutes."

I took a few pics of young Teddy boy
here...
