Well, Vicki, how far I'll travel depends on the band!  Cities are far apart in the Western US (alot closer together in the Northeast US), so travelling can involve long drives or flights, unfortunately.  I usually drive, because I like road trips and its cheaper. In the past six months, I've driven 15 hours to San Francisco to see the Mother Hips' annual run of shows at the Great American, 6 hours to San Diego for the Black Crowes, 6 hours to LA to see Tift and then 2 hours to Tucson to see Tift again and then another Tucson trip to see Kathleen Edwards.  Last fall I drove 8 hours to Santa Fe, New Mexico to see the Crowes and this summer we'll be going 4 hours to Las Vegas to see them and then, thankfully, we get a hometown show in Mesa at the same venue we saw Tift open solo for Nickel Creek last year.  We are considering making the trip to San Francisco to see the Crowes for at least a couple of their five-night run at the Fillmore in December.  When I used to follow the Grateful Dead around, we'd happily make out of state road trips, as well, to Arizona, Las Vegas, Colorado, Oregon, etc.  All in the name of pursuing the high that music delivers!

That's some serious driving!  We have a good train network here, and that way it's rarely more than 3 hours to get anywhere for shows from where I live.  A short flight to Edinburgh or Glasgow.  The downside is that lots of bigger American bands don't really 'tour' the UK, they only ever play in London.

I wish we had a good train system in the US. Many times the trains are more expensive than flying and they don't run very frequently. Trains...another good thing about the UK and Europe!

Hey Vicki, love your show reviews also. The farthest I've traveled for a show was from Minnesota to Ireland, a little over 4000 miles.

Thanks for the welcome Vicki, unfortunatly it wasn't to see Tift but another group and my friend and I had a nice vacation in Ireland while we were there. I have yet to see my first Tift show. But you on the other hand have seen 4 or 5 Tift shows, now THAT'S impressive and I'm just a little envious of all of you how have seen so many of her shows.

Hey Paul,

You won't be disappointed when you get to see your first show!  I hope Tift comes to play near you soon!  Otherwise, you could always take another vacation in the UK in July ....

You bet I won't be disappointed Vicki, I've always been a huge fan of live shows, that's why I love the Austin City Limits video AND audio. I just wish Tift AND band would make a  "live performance" dvd but I know how much that would cost Now if we could just get her record company behind the idea

She will be 266 miles away (one way) in Madison, WI. July 13th and I'll be there.

Back in '06 when I was in Ireland I almost did a 2 day side trip to England to visit a couple of people I know there but not enough time so.....
