Steve Stewart, writing in the on-line Tidewater News this week, said, "I never disliked the genre, but my taste ran to more obscure country artists — like John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, Todd Snider, Tift Merritt and Lucinda Williams ... "

Now, I'm glad he was onto Tift before he became a "country convert," but I'm a little amused at is classification of Prine, Walker and Williams, along with Tift, as "obscure."  Even I have heard of them.

Well, I guess they're obscure compared to the people on Top 40 radio, but within the music world they're anything but.
