Songwriting information from The Two Dollar Pistols with Tift Merritt:

If Only You Were Mine — John Howie & Tift Merritt

Just Someone I Used To Know — Jack H. Clement (Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton recorded this one, as did George Jones & Tammy Wynette.)

We Had It All — Donnie Fritts & Troy Seals (I'm not sure which version inspired this cover. Willie, Waylon, and Dolly are among the country artists who've recorded this, as have Ray Charles and Tina Turner. The liner notes cite Waylon and Brother Ray.)

Suppose Tonight Would Be Our Last — George Jones & Melba Montgomery

Counting The Hours — John Howie & Tift Merritt

(I'm So) Afraid of Losing You Again — Arthur Leo Owens & Dallas Frazier (The liner notes call this a Charley Pride song.)

One Paper Kid — Walter Martin Cowart (The liner notes cite the version by Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris.)

Since it looks as if your list is designed to compile any song Tift ever has performed, I can think of two more:

Hard Times Come Again No More (Stephen Foster) — performed with the N.C. Symphony [You'll find it among the 96-proof bootlegs]

('Til) I Kissed You (Don Everly) — performed with Teddy Thompson this fall [You'll see this one among the 96-proof bootlegs in the not-too-distant future]

Duck on Bike was apparently a music download web site out of Raleigh.  I would have accessed it a few (hundred?) times, looking for stuff about Tift, although the CD I had of the music that came off that site was given to me by a friend.  WXDU is the Duke studentish-run radio station, where Tift performed live more than once.  You can get some idea about the Duck on Bike site via the Wayback Machine.

Another title that shows up via the above link is "Come and Go Grace," ca. 1999 at latest, although you can't download it anymore.

Yet another is "It's the Shame," from the "Songs for Sixty-Five Roses" benefit CD.  And I repeat that you've also left off "I'll Be Home for Christmas."

Hi; I was just wondering about a couple of these b-sides - are they available to get online anywhere?

Specifically, I'm looking for the Woostock cover - didn't even know it existed. Is it a studio or live soundboard CD version?

Also, is there anywhere to download just the single song of Who Loves The Sun? Harder Feeling is available as a single song download on eMusic, but I can't find Who Loves The Sun anywhere.

Thanks!

Fantasy Records issued a Promo CD featuring "Woodstock", but it was never officially released. There is also a "live" version of Woodstock on "YouTube" from SXSW, but I am not sure that the videofeatures the complete song. BTW, that Fantasy promo CD is quite rare ! Hopefully, Tift will stick it as a bonus song on another CD, or perhaps release it as a separate CD single - it's a great song and a really nice "cover". As for the other song, I'll defer to others on the thread. Peter

Not sure if it is one the songs listed here but there is one where the chrous goes "If I had my way". It is along with Cowboy and Blue Motel my favorite non album track.

JohnPeter,

A reliable source says that line is the title of the song you mentioned. It's a TM original.

If anyone has a bootleg of this tune, the folks at the 96-proof bootleg saloon would love to hear from you.

This one isn't that hard to find, but it's a track I hadn't run across before.

Tift sings a recorded duet with Michael Wexler on "Year Of The Cat," a cover of the Al Stewart hit. The recording apparently came out in 2008.

Argh, I'm still not having any luck finding Who Loves The Sun for sale anywhere; even Barnes & Noble is sold out of the deluxe version online. Is this considered out of print/shareable? Or is there anywhere to still get the song? Thanks for any pointers!
