Thanks for posting the video Mitch. I think this must be Tift’s anti-Indie band song!

It’s a funny thing, but last night I was reading an old David Menconi-written No Depression article on Tift from 2000, and it includes this great comment from her which might help explain Tift’s joke on the video about why she got chucked out of a band way back when.

“ - and I tried to like indie rock, but I just couldn’t play or sing that. The first time I heard that Mary Lou Lord song, ‘His Indie World’, it was a case of, ‘She feels like I feel.’ There’s nothing more mortifying than not knowing how to tweak your amplifier the same way as the indie boys you’re playing with.”

If I've done the math correctly, this is the song otherwise known as Nineteen, right? I can't tell you how old it makes me feel to know that Tift was only that age when Kurt Cobain passed away!

Thanks for the clip, and I think she could probably hold her own with some head-banging indie rockers - but she's got too much SOUL to limit herself to that!
