November 1st in Buxton at the Opera House.  This looks very cool - a great double bill.  At the moment I can't see any other info about more UK MCC dates so could be a one-off?

Them ticket prices are steep!  £23 & £25 jeez!

Looks like its a tour!

Another date for Tift with Mary Chapin Carpenter has popped up (OK its not strictly the UK, but its close by!)

October 23rd in Sligo, Republic of Ireland.

http://sligolive.ie/2010/06/mary-chapin-carpenter-announced-for-sligo-live-sessions-2010/

They write a short and sweet piece on Tift in the pre-gig blurb...

Songstress Tift Merritt is a North Carolina native, who also plays guitar and piano. She has built a unique and critically acclaimed body of work of sonic short stories and poignant performances. Her first record made Time Magazine’s and New Yorker’s Top Ten Lists and was called the best debut of the year in any genre by Associated Press. This was followed by ‘Tambourine’ a soul-rock album which was Grammy nominated for Country Album of the Year. It was also nominated for three Americana Music Awards. Tift’s ‘See You On The Moon’ released in 2009 is her most visceral work to date and finds her doing what she does best.

in the announcement for the UK tour on Mary Chapin Carpenter's homepage (www.marychapincarpenter.com/2010/07/13/uk-tour-dates-announced/ ) it says "Tift Merritt will be along for all dates as the support act. See below for dates or visit the tour page".

Anyone know why Tift isn't listed on the official site to play Glasgow with MCC? The venue ticketing doesn't mention her either. Assuming she is missing it as she is in the city with her own show a couple of weeks earlier.

Silk bandanas,

Without answering your question directly, I'm going to put forward a hypothetical situation.

  1. Let's say that one American musical artist is touring with another in your part of the world.
  2. The official calendar has the two acts playing together Oct. 24 and Oct. 26.
  3. The official calendar has the headlining act also performing Oct. 25, but doesn't list the opening act on the bill.
  4. The opening act does not have another engagement that evening.
  5. The opening act is not taking a day off for Glaswegian sightseeing.
  6. The opening act is playing a headlining gig in the same city 16 days earlier.
  7. Promoters tend to get angry at artists who promote a second show in the same city before the first show has taken place.

Without saying any more, I hope you get my drift.

Are you implying Tift will be on Johnny Carson that night?

I get your drift and hope it's correct before I buy my tix for the MCC show!! (I'm out of town for the solo show).

However, both Newcastle dates are advertised but she will probably sell out the solo show anyway which is less likely in Glasgow.

Back in the day when MCC was a local DC musician she used to hang with a small cadre of "up and comers".   Anyway, one of these artists was Eva Cassidy, who unfortunately passed away at a very young age (33, I think), which anyone in the UK around my age knows very well since some of her CD's rose to #1 on the UK charts POSTHUMOUSLY !  Anyway, I was at the gym yesterday when my MP3 cued up Eva's cover of Sting's, Field of Dreams - what a treat - I had not heard that in quite a while.  Anyway, if any of you have never heard of Eva Cassisdy you might just enjoy her singing.  Of her few recordings, I recommend Live at Blues Alley.    Has anyone on the thread ever seen her perform live ? Never saw Eva perform live, but loved her songs. I know her version of Songbird was in the movie Love Actually and my oldest daughter used that song in her wedding.

I link to this Belfast Telegraph article only because the writer references Tift as a "fellow star" supporting Mary Chapin Carpenter.
