Tift played a dynamite solo set in Tarrytown, NY opening for Josh Ritter at the 800+-seat Tarrytown Music Hall, a small theater that's celebrating it's 125th anniversary. She definitely won over a bunch of new fans, my guess would be 2-3 dozen, if not more.

The set included (don't remember the order, except for the piano set, which came after the first two songs, and I prorbably have a song or two wrong as it was a nearly 2-hour drive home and it's 1:44 a.m.) The Things That Everybody Does (guitar), Engine To Turn (guitar), Another Country (piano), Good Hearted Man (piano, a few people were raving about this at the merch table while waiting for her to come out), Mixtape (piano, I like the solo piano version better than the album version), Feel of the World (guitar), Never Talk About It (guitar), Stray Paper (guitar), and closed the 45-minute set with Do Something Good

Sunday morning edit: I neglected to say she did a beautiful, off-mic version of See You On the Moon.

Sweet. How large was the crowd ?  I hope my friend Keith from NY and his pal Winker from Austin made it to the show. Winker lives in Austin, but spends each August in NY visiting his folks.  I still can't understand why anyone would pick August of all monthes to leave Austin ?  I think it was still 92 degrees at midnight Saturday.  Peter

Not sure how large the crowd turned out being. I know at 2:45 p.m. (an hour before I left home and 5+ hours before showtime) there were roughly 300 tickets available (60 or so being in the lower level/orchestra) of the 845 the theater holds. At showtime, the orchestra level was sold out and since I couldn't see the balcony, don't know how many extra tickets were sold in the balcony. So figure there were over 600 people there. And if I was betting on my estimate of how many new fans she won over last night, I'd guess I underestimated that amount in my initial post.

It looked like most of the balcony was full. I was able to grab a single in the sixth row when I heard Tift would be opening (not that Josh is any slouch, but that sealed the deal) and certainly the three women sitting next to me were fans by the end of her set. I'll be sharing my recording when I've had a chance to work on it.

Keith -- glad to hear most of the balcony was full as well -- I was down in the Orchestra, just under the balcony overhang. Grabbed a single in the 9th row once I knew my wife would be staying home to rest and take care of our son while I went to the sow.
The combination of Tift and Josh is what sealed the deal for me buying a ticket and making the two-hour drive for the show.
Will you be posting the recording to Dime or someplace else? By any chance did you record Josh's set as well?

I was actually in Orchestra too, just went down front for a minute to take a look up at the balcony cuz I was curious. I'll probably just upload mp3s to my website and post a link here for the Tift faithful. I did record Josh's set too, not sure what I'll do with that yet. Sound is not the greatest at Tarrytown (less of a problem for Tift because she had no bass or drums), and of course the audience participation at his shows creates some challenges for aud recordings!

Tift was competing with the venue's A/C system the entire set, but she still sounded great! You can download 16-bit FLACs or a zipped file of hi-fi mp3s from here:

Keith,

Thanks for the link to your recording.  The sound is quite good.  Sounds like it was a great show.  I was wondering if you've got a bunch of shows available (by any artist)?  If so, please provide info, I'd love to take a listen.  Thanks for recording the show!!!  Great job!!!

Kyle

P.S.  I'm sure it's out of Tift's control but I'd love to see her live recordings available at archive.org.  If you're not aware of this site, you've got to check it out.  Tons of bands offering recorded shows.  There are .flac,  .mp3, and ogg vorbis files.  Here's a link to the "browse artists with mp3 files".

http://www.archive.org/browse.php?field=/metadata/bandWithMP3s&collection=etree

There is another section for lossless files.  Thanks again!!!!

Hey Kyle,

Most of the shows I've recorded recently by taper friendly artists are available on http://tapers.org, you can look through the blog there and see what's available. I have some shows on LMA too, in fact my recording of Grace Potter at the Allen Room is the most highly rated of all her shows there (although more due to the venue's awesome acoustics and the unusually quiet audience than any skill on my part). I download quite a bit of stuff from there, and I'd also love to see Tift approve open taping of her shows like Josh Ritter and many of my other favorite artists do. But maybe Fantasy has an issue with it - at any rate, it's nice that we can share recordings of her shows here.

Tift's opening set is there too.
