Now that we've reached December, it's time for the "Best of 2010" lists to start arriving. We can use this thread to highlight the lists that give props to Tift.

The first one I've seen is the Leaps and Bounds blog, which ranks See You On The Moon No. 19 among the albums of the year.

[H]er last album, Another Country, was something special. See You On the Moon makes it two for two. It’s hard to explain why – other than it’s a solid album. The songs are her best yet – always tender and clever without being showy. Merritt is in fine voice. And it’s what’s not there that makes the difference. No self centered depression, cartoonish genre studies or any need to show off at all. There are times when I feel like a smart, simple songwriter album with no faults, and this year was this one. It may be a little unspectacular but damn it’s good.

No, I don't know what this says, but it looks as if See You On The Moon ranks No. 9 on this list.

Speakers in Code also names See You On The Moon one of the year's best albums:

There are times when we listen to See You On The Moon, and we are sure that Tift Merritt’s essential talent is her songwriting. Sure, the artist from North Carolina is often applauded for her voice, and rightly so. But Merritt’s writing on See You On The Moon is striking; it feels personal. And it’s beautiful. This is a record that grooves (“Mixtape”), inspires (“Engine To Turn”), and challenges the listener to think (“Things That Everybody Does,” “Feel of the World”). It represents an artist in her prime, an artist concerned with the future, not the past. It’s Merritt’s best work to date.

Tift might be happy to see a blogger pair her album (ranked No. 14 for the year) with the latest from her friend Patty Griffin.

"Mixtape" earns a spot on the year-end album from RiverCitiesReader.com:

Tift Merritt, “Mixtape.” In contrast to the angst and absence that characterize this collection, this song is unfettered by anything beyond the feelings inherent in the construction of a love-born mix tape. There’s some understandable nostalgia for the cassette – impermanent, finite, analog – that doubles as a longing for lost youth, and the soft, pleasant musical setting is decidedly retro, rooted in the 1970s. But Merritt presents the song in present tense, and there’s an urgency in the strings and the build-up that gives it additional emotional pull.

"Hoses of the Holy," in naming "When I Cross Over" as his song of the week, mentions See You on the Moon may come in as his #1 for the year.

This blogger ranks See You On The Moon No. 4 (or No. 5). Perhaps this vote will help Tift on WNCW.

AllMusic.com names See You On The Moon one of its 20 favorite country albums of the year.

Yeah, I know. The genre's off, but the sentiment is cool.

The Lexington Herald-Leader ranks See You On The Moon No. 8:

Merritt balances literate, confessional storytelling with a sense of musical fancy on See You on the Moon in a manner that recalls vintage Joni Mitchell. Yet the album's lyrical intimacy is all her own, whether she luxuriates in a patiently orchestrated piano ballad or floats along with a sumptuous, summery melody.
