| Thanks! Is Tift bringing the band to the 3/1 Albany date, or is she playing solo? |

Chris, you are golden! I know where I'll be on April 19th! I don't have to drive out of state, thankfully. But maybe I'll go to San Diego, too and then I'll get to go from Tehachapi to Tonopah to Tucson, almost like in Little Feat's Willin'.
This news makes my day, I'm thoroughly STOKED!
Andie, I think they played at Doug Fir in Portland last tour, I know they played at Tractor Tavern in Seattle, because that show was recorded. sounded like a good crowd up there in the Northwest. They know good music. I've never been to those venues, they sound like good ones, though, based on who all plays there.
Tift gets to play the Great American Music Hall in SF again, too, not sure she played there last tour. That is one of the greatest venues in the world, to me. Love that place. Old school vaudeville hall/bordello from prohibition Barbary Coast days of SF. Lots of history.
Looks like a sweet tour itinerary. Rock on, Tift and BAND! |

Hey, Shug:
You should come to LA on 4/17 and see her at the Troubador, then I'll be driving down to San Diego for the show on the 18th. You're welcome to crash at my place if you want to do that. Me, I'm still workign on flying out for the CD release show. |

Crap Michael I forgot to e-mail you this the other day--we found a very promising hotel a block from the theater in Durham and we are booked there--Marriott Durham Civic Center. They have on-line booking of course so if it works out for you to come, maybe this is helpful info. They of course can get you to and from the airport, either by shuttle or cab.
I'm so glad you West Coasters are gonna get a taste right away!
I am sure they are now in the process of nailing down the U.K. dates for May, but no concrete details as of yet. |

Oh, I can picture it oh so well, Phillip, you know it! Or think of me wailing away at the top of my lungs while holding out my cell phone on a call to my brother in rock D-Bone while the Black Crowes encore with this song in Flagstaff Arizona on an unseasonably chilly October evening outdoors among the pine trees. Sweet!
You should hear the Crowes rip into this one, they do it serious justice and tribute. Oh, and when they do Roll 'Em Easy, too.
"I've never heard girls that can sing the blues like the ones that live in Houston..."
Didn't Tift live in Houston as a child? Maybe Lowell George was singing about her? Oh, yeah, she was probably not born yet when he wrote that song. Premonition, maybe? |

speaking of 'Willin'; even as a Little Feat fan, I do have to admit Linda Ronstadt's cover is definitive.. besides Linda is one of Tift's influences :}
I have a nice bootleg of Linda doing this with Lowell George in a little radio circa 1975.. a prized possession

| We are sorry to inform all of you that Robert A. seems to have fallen victim to some foul play, his Ronstadt/George bootleg is missing, and the FBI are looking for Wester and Reid. Who are believed to have headed for the border. Or perhaps to Tonopah. |

Nice new flash, Phillip. We'll have to go incognito like desperados under the eaves and head down to Mexico.
Robert, I did not know that Ronstadt did that song. Shouldn't surprise me, though, she did a great job mining the songs of Jackson Browne, Zevon, and that whole So. Cal early 70s gang. That would've been an extremely fun time to be in LA hanging out at the Whiskey, the Troubador and the Golden Palomino and Laurel Canyon and all that. Decadence and decay, indeed!
This is a fun thread, although its drifting far off topic. |

You are in for a treat then:

From her album 'Heart Like a Wheel which is ESSENTIAL, especially for anyone which is interested in Tift's influences. I once told Tift that my musical fantasy would be to see her sing with Linda and Emmylou and she responded that would be her fantasy as well...

Thanks for this link, Robert. Good stuff. Who is in her band in that YouTube clip? Her studio records have that great 70s production, lots of breathing room for the instruments, not all saturated and overdriven like it can be today.
You should hear the Black Crowes do Willin', its easier to imagine them as truck drivin' degenerates than it is Linda! That song always reminds me of that oldie but goodie bumper sticker: "Gas, grass, or ass - no free rides!" Ahh, the 70s, I just barely missed out, dammit! |

I do recognize super session player Andrew Gold on lead guitar and I think Dan Dugmore is on pedal steel; can't tell the others though.. Linda was always fussy about her backing musicians; the success of her first back up band who formed a little group called the Eagles attests to that...
Linda also does some killer lead vocals on another Little Feat song 'All that you dream' on the live album 'Hoy Hoy' ;a tribute to Lowell George.. I will also try to check out the Black Crowes version... sorry you missed those times |
