Tift gets to promote "Another Country" on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno the night before the release. Those of us who saw her on Leno the first time may recall Jay enthusiastically applauding her song and telling her he would have to have her back. |

Well hot-damn I saw her on Leno the last time. This is a trip. I may fly to LA and see it live.
Anybody else want to go! |

Hey, Slak:
I'll be the guy in the Will Work for Tift shirt. As for Durham, I am still juglling trips around. Niece is getting married in September in Rome, so I'm throwing in trips to Prague and Oktoberfest in Munich. I still plan on going, but it all depends on what the foregoing trips are going to cost and whether I have enough to fly across country for the show. Don't hold on to any ticket for me if you need to do something. I'll let you know as soon as I have firm plans.

UK and European Tift fans should be able to catch this show, if my calculations are correct, on Weds 27th Feb if your TV channel package includes the CNBC (or CNBC Europe) channel. If you've got Sky TV in the UK, its on channel 505 at 11pm GMT, (or midnight Central European Time).
Looks like they show the Leno programme 2 days after it airs in the States according to the schedule on this page http://www.cnbc.com/id/15838609, and comparing it with the equivalent US page http://www.nbc.com/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/calendar/
My recorder is set! |

Wow, I almost forgot this was tonight! I'm glad I saw this thread. What was Jay's comment about her boots? |

Woke up early just to watch the Tivo of Tift (yes, I'm old -- I can't stay up that late). She sounded great. The mix was a little uneven, as they usually are on late night shows. I thought it was pretty cool of Pettibone to sit in on pedal steel. Sounds like Scott is fitting in nicely. --DK |

Pmcolt asked, "What was Jay's comment about her boots?"
I couldn't tell, but it sounded as if he said, "Hey, you got the boot stick."
This reminds me of the oft-misquoted line from Brenton Wood's "Oogum Boogum Song." No, Mr. Wood is not asking people to look at his favorite cat. He's singing, "Check out the boots, eh," or as the official lyrics sites tell me, "I just say who got the blues say who got the blues say who got the blues...." |

Wow, Tift really done good! :D If you have a broadband connection, you can download an NTSC format .mpg file of her Leno appearance from my website at:
http://kbergend.tripod.com/tift2008-02-25leno_ntsc.mpg
The file is about 235Mb.
Does anyone know if Pettibone will be touring with her? |

I look forward to downloading it, but from what I have seen, Jay may have said 'Hey you got the boot SCHTICK', which roughly translated from an old Yiddish idiom means a 'thing' or 'bit' as in theater..

I went out last night to see the new U23D movie (I'ts a-MAZING); so, I set my DVR before I went out. The guide on DirecTv showed Leno on from 10:30-11:30 my time; so, having 20 minutes left on my DVR (at EP speed, of course), I set it for 11:15-11:35. Y'all with me?
So, i get home and start watching; and right there in the middle of the guitar solo, the recording stops! All I can think of is that the guide had it wrong; and Leno runs to 11:35. ARGH.
So, this is my long way of saying, "Thanks, Keith", for making her performance available for download!
I thought Tift and the band looked and sounded GREAT!
Peace...

Yeah, it was cool of Pettibone to sit in. Thanks for letting me know who that was, David, I wasn't sure. I've not seen him enough to recognize him. I couldn't hear him all that clearly, but it was cool nonetheless. I'd love to have him be on the tour, I think it would be great to have another "color" instrument in the mix and from what I've heard of the new record (haven't bought it yet, that will be tonight!) it would be great for replicating some of the studio stuff, especially Morning Is My Destination! However, my guess is that he will not be joining the tour. Hopefully I'm wrong.
Scott sounded pretty good to me, he took a nice and tasty solo. He seems reserved in his stage manner, though. I prefer my guitarists to get into it a little bit more, show a bit more emotion, but you can't have everything you want!
Everyone else in the band was up to their usual high standards, Zeke looking cool behind the drums, Jay singing great, Danny doing his thing (again reserved on this song, but appropriate) and Tift singing and fronting the band like she does.
Good stuff! |

Now all you've got me thinking is, "Holy crap, how cool would it be if Pettibone was Tift's guitarist?!" With all due respect to Scott, who will no doubt be blowing our socks off this spring. Of course, then Doug wouldn't be Lucinda's guitarist, and so on and so forth...
Incidentally, the reports are that Doug has just finished recording the next Lucinda record in LA. So he probably will have some downtime for a few months. Anything's possible, right? |
