Well, Vicki, how far I'll travel depends on the band! Cities are far apart in the Western US (alot closer together in the Northeast US), so travelling can involve long drives or flights, unfortunately. I usually drive, because I like road trips and its cheaper. In the past six months, I've driven 15 hours to San Francisco to see the Mother Hips' annual run of shows at the Great American, 6 hours to San Diego for the Black Crowes, 6 hours to LA to see Tift and then 2 hours to Tucson to see Tift again and then another Tucson trip to see Kathleen Edwards. Last fall I drove 8 hours to Santa Fe, New Mexico to see the Crowes and this summer we'll be going 4 hours to Las Vegas to see them and then, thankfully, we get a hometown show in Mesa at the same venue we saw Tift open solo for Nickel Creek last year. We are considering making the trip to San Francisco to see the Crowes for at least a couple of their five-night run at the Fillmore in December. When I used to follow the Grateful Dead around, we'd happily make out of state road trips, as well, to Arizona, Las Vegas, Colorado, Oregon, etc. All in the name of pursuing the high that music delivers! |
