How'd you get those clips to show in your post like that?

"With a suitcase full of empty dreams.
A guitar with broken strings.
A busted heart that longs to sing the blues.
A mind that always leads me wrong,
A head full of Hank Williams songs.
I'm sorry, honey, but this highway's home."

Hey Birmingham Steve - hi!

I did see your email too, but got distracted earlier and forgot to reply - apols

Simple to embed the videos...

when you use the Add New Topic link, or the Add Reply link it gives you a fancy editor which has got a button called Source at the top, click that, and then paste in the special HTML embed code which you will have previously cut from the Youtube video page.  Then click Source again and add any normal text , witty comments, abuse etc, click Submit, and you're done!

Easy peasy  Hope this helps.

Just noticed your sig - heard that Will Hoge song the other week on Bob Harris Country over here in the UK - very good stuff - nice pedal steel on that one, I like it!

Hey U.K.!

Great to hear that, across the pond, you've heard of my favorite young rocker! :-)

Here's a clip I shot of him and his band performing "The Highway's Home" at the release party for his latest cd.

You can hear AND see that awesome pedal steel that you mention!

BTW, I have some MORE video of Tift performing at the AMAs; of the NEW songs.  I thought I'd wait until the week of the album's release before uploading them.

Peace...

You just upload those babies soon as you like Steve - you do know that 'Another Country' is being released today, in Turkmenistan, right? ;-)
I think we should qualify for at least one new vid to celebrate that!

And damn, that Will Hoge guy is really good too, that's another album on the wish-list.

I'll have time next week to start working on the other Tift clips that I'm squirrelin' away.  Right now, I'm busy working on my year-end reviews.  I need to have 'em out before the Grammys on sunday night....

Glad to hear that you approve of Mr. Hoge; 'cause over here, he's doing strange things to his female fans.  Check out what happens around 2:34 of this clip from a show he andhis band played here in Birmingham.....Alabama, that is.

Patience, patience....

And, I'll need help with the song titles for the new songs; as I'm not familiar with them yet.

Nice videos! You have more confidence in the handheld zoom than I do. I always fear the tripod-free zoom will lead to a video that looks like "The Blair Witch Project."

There are two easy ways to find the names of the new tracks. Tiftmerritt.com lists lyrics for the whole album. You can also perform a "tift merritt" search on YouTube. You'll find "Another Country," "My Heart Is Free," "Hopes Too High," "Broken," "Something To Me," and "Mille Tendresses." Other newbies she performed New Year's Eve (which will be posted by the time the album is released) were "Tell Me Something True," "Morning Is My Destination," and "I Know What I'm Looking For Now."

Come to think of it, you can also make out "Keep You Happy" from the brief snippet she offered in a soundcheck, as captured in the clip called "Tift Merritt at Schoolkids Records ...." (This clip memorializes three Mack Daddy ceremonies at a single show.)

>"The Blair Witch Project"

lol..thanks, Mitch. A few friends have told me that I should've been a surgeon.
The type of camera I use has a lot to do with it. All of the videos on my channel (204 so far) were shot with a Fuji 6000; a "regular" digital camera that is easily held with two hands. Also, when my arms get tired, I will prop my upper arms & elbows against my chest for support.
I have learned a few tricks through this experience; one of which is that a slow zoom in (and out) at key points in a song can add substantial dramatic effect. For instance, I'll frame the upper body of an artist at the beginning of the clip; then move in for a head shot for the second verse; back out for the instrumental break that many times is used to extend a song; then back in for the last verse. It's a lot of work; but the results can be very rewarding.

Thanks, also, for the tip on the lyrics availability for the new songs. That's really all I'll need to quickly identify the songs I have videos for.
I will have them up in the few days leading up to the release date. You and everyone else are going to LOVE the clip I have for the "French Song".

In the meantime, I shot John Eddie at a show in Atlanta Sunday night. Hopefully, some of you Tift fans were led to John's music through Tift's involvement on his "Who the Hell is John Eddie?" album released in '02/'03. Tift sang harmony vocals on three tracks. I'll have some clips of John's show up on my channel in the next few days; as well as Dan Baird & Warner Hodges; and the incredible Mike Farris. Stay tuned!
